4 HRS AGO - Photo by Amy Lemus/NurPhoto via Getty Images
Let’s see where the Bears rank in sacks allowed with five games remaining on the schedule... The Chicago Bears have allowed 35 sacks through 12 games this season, which is a bit behind last year's horrendous near-record-setting pace. The most sacks allowed in a single Bears season happened in 2004, when they gave up 66. Last year's 58 sacks allowed was second all-time, which tied how many they gave up in 2021.
In 2010, Mike Martz's first year in Chicago, the Bears gave up 56, and rounding out the top five most sacks allowed years in team history, they gave up 55 in 1969.
The main culprit on this season's Sackwatch thus far has been quarterback Justin Fields with 11, but if you're looking for a silver lining, his sack percentage of 11.6% is a career-best. He still needs to find a way to avoid some unnecessary sacks, but he's also able to evade others that some QBs can't, and his elusiveness as a runner can stress a defense.

There are still plenty of things to talk about in the NFL, even if none of them involve the Bears making it into the playoffs this year. Jeff isn’t available this week, so readers will have to make do with a few slightly different takes on the league.
1. The phrase “meaningful football” has a new edge. Like many fans of the Chicago Bears, I am tired of the Bears being out of “meaningful football” games by mid-December. However, at least the Bears play in a system with clearly defined rules and where the targets are knowable. Say what you want about how some divisions are weaker than others at times, all teams have a chance at making the playoffs, and they always know what they need to do in order to get there. This makes the NFL (in this one regard) a much better institution than other so-called football playoff systems that are really invitational exhibitions.
2. Gardner Minshew is on track to be the next Ryan Fitzpatrick. And I’m here Collapse

When betting the spread isn’t nearly enough Well, well, well, what do we have here? Two great matchups for a couple of our favorite passing offenses? Don’t mind if I do.
The Miami Dolphins travel to our nation’s capitol to take on one of the worst secondaries in the league. If the Dolphins want to make a Tyreek for MVP push, this is the game that they need to pad some stats. Flipper Anderson owns the single game mark at 336 yards - yes, that’s a real number - and there have been six instances of a receiver topping 300. I’m not predicting 300 for Tyreek, I’m just saying that this is his best shot at a ridiculous number to add to his candidacy. I’m taking the over for him, Waddle, and Tua and I’m hunting for an alternative yards bet on Hill where I can get it.
The other game I’m interested in is the San Francisco 49ers traveling to Philly as road favorites against a 10-1 Eagles squad. Really? Well, the 49ers are playing as well as anyone in Collapse

Greg Gabriel takes a look at another top wideout entering the 2024 NFL Draft. Yes, I am quite aware that there are a high number of Chicago Bears fans who would love to see the Bears select Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. I am not going to say here and write that Harrison isn't an obvious high-level talent as that would be ludicrous, but I am going to wrote that there are three or four other wide receivers in this Draft class that are close to being as good and some may say even better than Harrison.
How can I make such a blasphemous statement? Well, first, I have been evaluating football talent for over 40 years, and I know what a great player looks like. I also know that regardless of what many fans want to think, wide receiver is not a priority position that a club still rebuilding takes in the top four picks of any Draft; that is why there hasn't been a wide receiver taken any higher than five in the Collapse

We ranked the most relevant 35 quarterbacks in the NFL based on their ability to win a Super Bowl A few people recently asked me where I would rank Justin Fields among the other NFL quarterbacks and I’ve frequently said “probably about 20.” But it made me think, is that an accurate number? I hadn’t ever really thought about it much beyond that.
But with the calendar just a few weeks away from flipping to 2024, it made me think, where would he rank heading into 2024? Now obviously, I’m not going to attempt to rank any of the QBs that will be rookies in 2024. But I took who I thought were the most relevant QBs from this season and ranked them. I came up with 35.
What’s the ultimate goal in the NFL? To win the Super Bowl, obviously. So I put the quarterbacks in tiers on the likelihood that you can win a Super Bowl if that player is your starting quarterback.
How were these ranked? There was no statistical formula. It was my opinion and only Collapse

When we last saw our Chicago Bears on the field, they were eking out a last-second 12 to 10 win in Minnesota on Monday Night Football. How to bet the Monday Night Football game This was one of those matchups that looked a whole lot better before the season started. After a sluggish start to the season at 1-3 while Joe Burrow worked his way back from a preseason calf injury, the Bengals had looked like a team ready to storm back into the playoff picture with wins against the 49ers and Bills pushing their record to 5-3. Now sitting at 5-6, the Bengals looking at a lost season with Burrow out for the year. Their remaining schedule features exactly zero teams with a losing record. This feels like a lost season for one of the preseason favorites.

Their sources indicate that the franchise is using the same firm, Compass Land Surveying Aurora, that was used to survey the Arlington Heights property and other possible locations.
This isn't the first time we've had a report that the Bears are looking into remaining within the city limits, but we've also heard about talks with Waukegan, Naperville, Rockford, and Aurora, to name a few.

In fact, you start thinking about things and maybe it was the holiday season that put me in a good mood, but I started thinking about the Chicago Bears future in a positive light.
That light is a lot brighter than anyone expected, and it’s thanks to the trade Ryan Poles pulled off with the Carolina Panthers. It has decimated the Carolina Panthers franchise. It’s like a movie, Poles is walking away, sunglasses on, in slow motion from the Panthers’ franchise that he has left as a pile of smoldering rubble.
